What if we don't finish the song?Your Coach+Writing pro is committed to giving you their very best during your 2-hour session. Sometimes, the song gets finished; sometimes it doesn't. We believe it's better to NOT rush a song just to get it done in the 2-hour window. We believe it serves the client (you) better to have a verse and chorus written to professional standards than to have a whole song written below that standard. We also believe it is important to slow down and answer any client questions that may pop up along the way. If the song isn't finished, you're free to finish it on your own or book another session.
Will our song get recorded by an artist?
Coach+Writing with a pro songwriter is NOT a magic bullet that guarantees the song will be published or get recorded by an artist. Consider Coach+Writing an EDUCATIONAL opportunity- a chance to "learn by doing." Yes, we do our best to write the best song possible in our time together. And we're happy to pitch the song to artists - if it's awesome. But our main job is to teach you how the pros think about songwriting. We don't want to just give you a fish- we want to teach you HOW to fish.
Do I have to travel to Nashville?
The Coach+Write will be conducted over the phone, Skype, FaceTime, or Zoom. It's your choice. You'll choose which one when you book the session. The booking software will also ask you for your phone number if you choose to meet by phone, your Skype name if you choose to meet over Skype, etc.
How should I prepare? What should I bring to the Coach+Writing Session?
Bring at least two song ideas. You and your Coach will discuss them, then choose one to write. Also bring a great attitude and a willingness to work hard and have fun!
What happens to any ideas we don't write that day?
If you suggest an idea that you and the Coach don't write, you're free to write it with someone else.
Is it okay if we just work on a lyric during the Coach+Write?
Yes. That is no problem at all.
Can I bring in another writer to our session?
Yes. You can include another co+writer in the session, or in the future, outside of the session. It's your song.
How will the demo be handled?
If you decide to demo the song, the Coach+Writer is not liable or responsible for any costs associated with that demo. You don't need the pro's permission to demo the song.
Will the Coach+Writer's name be on the song as a co+writer?
At the end of the session, the pro will decide if they want co+writer credit. If they do NOT want co+writing credit, you can still use all of the Coach's contributions- but you won't list them as a co+writer. If the Coach loves the song you get, they will ask for (and receive) co+writer credit and privileges. Their share of co+writing/publishing will be 50% if there are two writers, 33.34% if there are three writers, etc. In other words, everyone on the song will each get equal credit. Do NOT expect your Coach to request co+writer credit. The bar for this is very high, and it will only happen on rare occasions. If your Coach doesn't take co+writer credit, it doesn't mean that it's a bad song. It may be a very good song. However, the Coach may only want to add their name to GREAT songs.
